Anonymous: does biz paint over pen outlines or carefully paint around them, its a problem im having thanks :)

I usually just wash over them, especially if I have used a black marker.

Simon

Anonymous: hey biz- thanx for creating this great forum. i love it! my question is: what do you do to prepare your acrylics before painting? do you mix all of the colors in advance? do you add water to your acrylics before you start painting? THANK YOU

I never put the tops on so I usually have to poke the top of the paint with something sharp.  I put a blob of each colour I am going to use on to a plate.  Yes, I do add a little water to keep the paint mobile.

Thanks,

Simon

Anonymous: What kind of music do you listen today? Just interested... Anyway, you're the best out there among Jim Lee, my other idol and so on.

Mostly heavy metal like Immortal and Type O Negative, Stone Temple Pilots and Baconhead.

Simon

Anonymous: Hello Simon,
Wha't it's your most influence? Frazetta or Corben

Frazetta by far.

Anonymous: hello Simon!

1. what kind of brushes do you use?
2. can you list some of the weird multimedia techniques you might use besides acrylics?
3. who are some of your favorite artists in history? who are some of your favorite comic painters?

you fukn rule bro

1. Just standard brushes - mostly stiff brushes for acrylics.

2. Pastels, coloured pencils.  PVA glue with paper, scratching tools, pens, spray paint.

3. My favourites are Turner, Klimt - all the greats.  Barry W Smith, Frazetta and Jack Kirby.

Best,

Simon

Anonymous: Hello, Mr. Bisley.
You are my favorite painter, as all your pieces have such an incredible display of spontaneity and power. I was wondering how you model the scenes for your paintings. Do you use reference for textures and backgrounds, or do you have a mental inventory that you've stored over the years? Thanks for all your work over the years. it inspires us all to work harder! -Jon Castaneda

Thanks Jon for your comments - I usually have an idea what I want to do, I work quite quickly and the paint usually does the work for me.

Best,

Simon

Anonymous: All Hail King Biz- You rock, man. Love all your stuff. Just a random request here. If you ever get a chance to post a video tutorial, can you please demonstrate how you paint a face and a muscular arm/leg? I feel like those two things would go a long way in illustrating a variety of techniques. THANKS, BUD!!!

This is something I intend on doing in the future, I’ve set up a youtube but I just don’t have the time at the moment.  I think I would really enjoy doing it.

Best,

Simon

Anonymous: What ever happened to Martin and the other guys from Boothill Motorcycles?
I still have the gas tank with the paratrooper wings you and Arthur did up for me.
Still much appreciated! Thanks again...
The "American Bloke"

Martin moved to Spain and I don’t know about the rest of the guys.

Anonymous: From Mariyan the Barbarion :
Hi Biz, i have one question for you.I searched it in interview's whit you but
i didn't find an answer. In your eye's what are the most often amateur mistakes people do when they are beginners?
And how do you practice your drawing skills now and back then, when you started to draw.
What advice can you give us from your own expireance as an... artist.

I really want your opinion, not some stereotype advice.
I ask you because, after i saw Batman & Judge Dredd - Judgement On Gotham, every other comics i saw looked uglier
than before
PS : sorry for my bad english :)

Most beginners are too careful and work to slowly because they can doubt themselves.  I always enjoyed drawing so I never really saw it as practising.  Thank you for the compliment, I am glad you enjoyed my take on Batman.

Best,

Simon

Anonymous: hi simon- thanks for this website!!! i've already learned so much from your responses! just wondering- what types of brushes do you use when painting faces and muscles? Do you prefer rounds? flats? Something else, maybe?

I don’t use flat or soft brushes, I like a firm bristle that goes to a point.  I use an old short rounded brush for dry brushing effects and I use flat brushes for blocking in backgrounds.

Thanks,

Simon
